The worlds of fashion and film merge elegantly once more. Angelina Jolie is to star in Couture, directed by Alice Winocour. The film is poised to premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Following her acclaimed portrayal of Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s Maria and her 2023 foray into fashion with the launch of her label Atelier Jolie, Jolie will take on the drama of Paris Fashion Week.
What Couture Is About
Set during the frenzy of Paris Fashion Week, Couture follows three women whose lives intersect amid beauty, ambition, and vulnerability:
- Maxine Walker (Jolie), an American filmmaker in her forties facing a life-altering diagnosis
- Ada, a new model from South Sudan seeking escape from her predetermined future
- Angèle, a makeup artist working quietly behind the runway scenes
Through their intertwined stories, the film explores quiet resilience, unseen labor, and unspoken solidarity—all unfolding in the shadow and shimmer of haute couture.
Behind the Scenes & Cast
A co-production with Chanel, Pathé, and Canal+, Couture brings together a striking ensemble: Angelina Jolie, Louis Garrel, Ella Rumpf, Anyier Anei, Garance Marillier, and Finnegan Oldfield.
Filming began in late 2024 in Paris—formerly titled Stitches—with principal photography completed in early 2025. Winocour’s finely tuned direction, paired with Pascaline Chavanne’s costume design and Florian Sanson’s production design, promises a visual experience as textured as a couture gown.
Premiere Date
Mark your calendars: Couture is set for its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at TIFF on September 7, 2025. It’s also slated for a screening at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, offering more early exposure ahead of a wider release.
What to expect
Fashion doesn’t just drape the screen—it narrates it. Through Jolie and Winocour, Couture promises a story sewn together with grace, power, and understated drama. The visual language here isn’t about spectacle—it’s about the textures of identity, the uniforms of ambition, and the memory of style. 2025 seems to be the year of fashion films.
